 You are not alone

When you experience the loss of a pregnancy and the death of a baby, it can feel like you are the only one in the world going through such a loss, but sadly it happens more often than you may imagine.

  In the UK:

  • One in every four pregnancies ends in a miscarriage. (The Miscarriage Society)
  • One percent of pregnancies are ectopic. (The Miscarriage Society)
  • 1800 pregnancies are terminated each year due to fetal abnormalities. (A.R.C)
  • More than 6000 babies are stillborn or die in the first four weeks of life. (SANDS)

Despite these figures, pregnancy loss and the death of a baby is something that is not talked about much, and when it happens, it can be difficult to find support, and a listening ear.

Support can come from many different sources; most importantly from your own family and friends, and if you are able to discuss with them, it can be particularly helpful for you and for them also.
However it is not always possible to gain needed support from them, and in these cases, help is available from Professional Carers - doctors, nurses midwives, counsellors, ministers, and also from  Support Organisations such as The Splash Project and The Samaritans.
